Crunch time

Here I am on the 28th of December reviewing how I've done on my quilting new year's resolution for 2012 of finishing one quilt a month (or just a total of 12). I have finished 10. I have one that's ready to be quilted, one that's almost ready to be quilted, 2 that need to be bound, and we won't count the number I have cut out. I think I may have two others that just need a final border as well . . . Anyway, I have tomorrow and Monday to get 2 done. I think those two that need bound will be the winners, since everything else seems much more time consuming. BUT I found out Aubrey has access to a quilting machine so it may be time to get a stock pile and spend a day quilting. The baby list seems to be growing. 3 girls and 2 boys I should get goin' on. :/ I may have to carry this resolution into 2013 to finish up projects that have been long started without being finished. Here's to a productive end of 2012!

Let's play a little catch up

Last time I posted was July. 3 months have now passed and I have not been as big a slacker as I appear. I still need to take a picture of the quilt I did in August, but I finally finished this bright colored pinwheel one. I was really please with how it turned out.

Here's the chevron that I thought of while running and talked about a lot without actually showing it. I did a Disney themed Chevron for my friend Denae and her little guy. It turned out SO GREAT! I was really proud of myself on this one.

July

Finished this one I started quite a while ago. I got super frustrated because I couldn't find anything for a border or to back it in. THEN the other day I was at my favorite quilting store The Cotton Shop in Provo and they had this super cute minky on sale. TIGER print! How could I go wrong? I think it turned out awesome.

August will be finishing a quilt for my friend Katie who is moving to Florida. I almost finished pinning it last night so I shouldn't have any problems getting it finished up this weekend. Then it's on to decorations for the baby shower I have coming up!

June was . . .

Not as productive as May. I only finished one quilt, which is the goal so I did okay, but compared to May I feel like I was slacking. In my defense (who am I defending myself against?  . . . right) I was super busy in June going to Idaho twice and Moab once and managing to run 100 miles. I did cut out and sew most of a patriotic table runner. I actually finished it in July, but most of the work was done in June.
I used the same pattern as the quilt I was working on in May
and just changed the colors for the holiday.
I was going to make a patriotic quilt. I really was. I bought all the fabric, found a design in liked, but I just couldn't fine the motivation. This was as good as it was going to get for this year. I realized I have a quilt to finish for my friend Katie before she moves next month. Guess I should try and find some motivation for that.

I'd post pictures of the quilt I finished in June, but it's a gift for a friend and she might look at this and I don't want to ruin the surprise so it will have to wait until after the baby shower in August. Believe me though, it's cute.
Here's to hoping July will be more productive that June, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

May report

I finished 2 quilts in May!!! I know, sometimes I'm an overachiever. lol. I also finished another top and most of another one along with the two pillows. May was a very productive quilting month for me. June might be more of a struggle with lots going on. We'll see how it goes.
So this is the one that got mostly done. It needs 3 borders on it and I just don't know what to do for them or to back it. Any suggestions?
I love these pillows. Our furniture (as you can see) is kind of ugly, although this couch is really comfy, and so I wanted to make something that would be cute to try and make our living room a little prettier. We are going to get a cover for this couch. I just used scraps from the quilt pictured above this one.
This one I started FOREVER ago but finally finished the binding. Woot, woot.
Here is my first attempt at the Chevron. I used this website Moda Bake Shop for the directions. Mine is smaller than these directions since I was making a baby blanket. I also used smaller squares. She used a charm pack which are 5 inch squares. I used 4 inch squares. I think it turned out really well and it wasn't as difficult as I was thinking it was going to be.

Once upon a time

a long time ago in 2009? maybe. yes. 2009, we had a baby shower for Camille with a Dr. Suess theme. Miraculously I had a couple pieces of Dr. Suess fabric from a quilting project when I was a senior in high school. Score for being a fabric hoarder! Anyway, I was thinking about it just now as I sit here thinking about different quilts I've done and I realized I never put it up and I really don't even have a picture of it except this one where you can only kind of see it on her lap.
Now it would be a piece of cake to find Dr. Suess fabric, but at the time I was one lucky girl. Go me!

Update

I LOVE running. I get great inspiration while I run. I'm so SO excited about this Chevron quilt that I made. The idea came to me while I was running and I finished the top yesterday and it is SO adorable. I'd show you pics, but it's a surprise. But seriously, it's so awesome and was pretty simple.

April

April has been a very productive month for me. I made this cute Easter/Spring table runner.
When I was home for Easter my mom and I tied this quilt to put in my car. My great-aunt and my great grandma made the top and since I'm the quilter in the family, mom thought I'd appreciate it the most.
I also finished this Valentine's quilt from . . . last year?
I did give in and start on the Chevron quilt, but I'm waiting for my walking foot to come before I go any further with it. It will involve minky . . . and I'm a little nervous. The lady at the fabric store said to pin a lot and that a walking foot is helpful. In the meantime I've been working on other long forgotten projects trying to get things done. Go me.

Chevron

On my list of quilts I'd like to make is a Chevron Quilt. I think they are ADORABLE and I don't think they look too difficult. There is a big debate going on in my head. It goes something like this. side 1 "Don't start a new project you have 15 that aren't finished" side 2 "BUT THEY'RE SO CUTE AND EASY YOU'D TOTALLY FINISH IT!!"

I have a feeling a happy medium can be found. Maybe I'll make a deal with myself. Finish 2 (putting me a head for my one a month) and then you can start a new one.
I'm really in a go through all my fabric mood. I guess it's better than a "let's go to the fabric store" mood.
This week is looking very open maybe I'll get stuff done. Run and quilt. Sounds like great Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night plans.

Here are the two Chevrons I just love. Which to do first . . .

I love the colors in this one here and it's very summery

And this one is very . . . peaceful?

p.s. remember how I was never really engaged and it was just an April Fool's joke? I remember that. :)

As of late

As of late, I'm a slacker. It happens when you get engaged. I saw it in my friends and now I see it in myself. Oh well.
I did manage to get a couple things done though while Jordan was working on a group project.

My new year's resolution for this year was to finish one quilt a month. I failed in February so we'll see if I can make it up in March. I finished the binding on this quilt which is actually one of the very first quilts I ever pieced. There's a lot of pink going on. :/ Oh well it's nice and cozy.

And here's my table runner for March. We won't talk about the fact that I finished it on St. Patrick's day. It still works for the entire month of March it will have 2 weeks of glory on the table. I think I don't like how I quilted it, but what can you do?

Now to try and get another quilt finished and maybe an Easter table runner done. Do I think it will happen? Depends on how often Jordan has school and work. ;)

Holiday projects

Our "dining room" always looks so awfully empty so i make these table runners to try and help it out. I don't know if it really works, but I like them.

This is what I do with my Thursday nights. Make a new table runner and watch 6 episodes of Merlin. My life is awesome. Don't be jealous.

New Year's Resolution

I have quite a few quilts in various stages of being done. So one of my New Year's resolutions is to finish one quilt a month. I think it sounds manageable. :)
